Saunimon - Quiche – EP

Saunimon is an alternative electronic artist from Los Angeles, California. While his tag “indie” may allude one to believing this is a unique experience, it’s anything but. Unfortunately, Quiche – EP is yet another generic electronic-rock imitator that abuses the laid-back indie sound as callously as a label company shoving similar trash down our throats in the same manner.

Not to say Quiche – EP is bad, though if it were a major release by a major artist, it’d be incredibly disappointing. Thankfully, there are some standout tracks. It may be repetitive, though the intricate details of Emerald Pools are as gorgeous as they are fluent. Kowloon Yacht Club is also a step in the right direction; it’s progressive, and consistently alluring. While the beats are nothing new, the fragmented arps and iridescent drones are enough to carry the song. On the contrary, the remaining tracks are fluff. Some of the clicks are neat on Be, though the track fails to cultivate a personality of its own. Furthermore, The Aquazone and Hang Gliders are far too dull to even break down into detail.

Saunimon absolutely nails his vision on Quiche – EP. The album artwork, the atmosphere, and overall production are executed meticulously. Sadly, the vision is not unique, and struggles to offer any new ideas in the dying genre. His works could easily pass in an educational video, or perhaps a video game or movie, though on their own, they’re too bland to recommend. Here’s hoping the artist takes far more risks on his next release.
