Alldrig - Introspective Existentialism

Sebastian Scrugley, mostly known in the underground scene by A Magnificent Cold, released music under the alias Allrig that focused more on dark ambient and atmospheric black metal, as opposed to depressive black metal and dark folk. With a beautiful piano that interweaves between each major piece, Scrugley beautifully orchestrates a magnificent, dark blackgaze spectacle on Introspective Existentialism.

Finally… entices one into its warm, comforting soundscape. The timbre of instrumentation is lush and immaculate among the soothing oceanic waves. The blending of percussion and keys is nothing short of brilliant on Winter Lullaby; easily the biggest standout. While the DSMB elements on the title track Introspective Existentialism are nothing fans of the genre haven’t heard before, they are elegantly executed and well balanced. Both Melancholy Germ I & II stand out due to their gorgeous progressions. …Nothing ends the album in the same manner as the opener; beautifully.

Scrugley’s works on Introspective Existentialism work beautifully in tandem. These pieces are as vibrant as they are expressive, making for a tremendous listening experience. The sombre moments work best, while the noisier sections compliment them stunningly. Whereas previous entries in Scrugley’s discography often felt like retreads, Introspective Existentialism blends the realms of many genres to a spectacular effect. If only it were longer.
