33soteric – The New World’s Internet 801 Orchestra

Note: the current version of The New World’s Internet 801 Orchestra available on Bandcamp is NOT the version I originally reviewed. The current version seems to be a remixed version in efforts to troll his own fanbase. If you want to listen to the true version (the one that justifies this score), I have linked a google drive link below:

33soteric, the new project from the notorious underground troll DJ Dubbi, has transcended to new heights with his latest release, The New World’s Internet 801 Orchestra. Blending the realms of hyperpop, EDM, Deconstructed Club, glitch and schizophrenia, 33soteric has broken the mould of what was previously thought possible in electronic dance music, providing an album that is equally charming as it is prolific. For someone who spent an entire decade criticising others on their abhorrent production, 33soteric has finally deserved the authority to do so.

The New World’s Internet 801 Orchestra is both disillusioned and elated, carefully sticking close to well-grounded EDM conventions while consistently pushing the boundaries of what is possible electronically. The vocal chops of Secrets of Alchemy work fascinatingly both as a melodic rhythm and an unconventional beat. Elements of trance are deconstructed and arranged in a manner that both elicits hypnotisation yet keeps the listener alert and engaged. Transcend the flesh is fascinatingly absorbing, despite its lack of progression. This is partly to do with its wondrously detailed soundscapes and charming vocal placement. Much could be said about Solve et Coagula and its charismatic and cheesy vocal sampling. The short, but magnificent crescendo gives plenty of credence to Life’s Good (You Know That), as well as the opener, The Best Internet; both tracks are gorgeously detailed and textured.

Cyber Punk At The Opera House may be the largest standout, with its free-form progression and incredibly captivating descent into madness. The album takes an unbelievably demented direction in its second half, as if to channel into different frequencies of consciousness. New Data Mosh Pit reminds the listener that the vocal samples are not the showcase of the project, but 33soteric’s captivating soundscapes and impressive production skills. The album continuously weaves in and out of multiple dimensions, giving a glimpse of what the music of the future decade may sound like; the artist is truly at the forefront of imaginative sound design. The magic continues throughout Jupiter and Saturn, where only the madness is amplitude. By the time the final track, The Final Understanding, is over, it’ll leave you craving more.

The personality of these tracks provides most of the alluring factor; the demented vocal deliveries and plunderphonic placement of each sample is equally riveting as it is frenzied. If there’s one element 33soteric could improve in future, it’s composition. Many tracks, while ground-breaking sonically, offer very little composition-wise outside an Electronica gimmick. 33soteric can get away with it on his debut, but this is an area that will hold him back in future if he chooses to ignore it. Nevertheless, The New World’s Internet 801 Orchestra comes with a huge recommendation. Welcome to the new era of EDM.
