The Long Faces – Documentaries

The Long Faces is an immaculant trio from London, UK. Their music is elegant and smooth, experimentally blending genres such as jazz and psychedelia with ease.

Sail Away is one impressive opener; it’s progressive rock, yet simultaneously poppy and jazzy. The instrumentation bleeds elegantly and with charm. Much the same could be said with Documentaries; the track’s progression is unbelievably impressive, continuously delightful as the song constantly subverts expectations. And Where Have You Gone, Mr. Wolf? Is less jazz, but more explosive in the prog-rock category; a fitting ending to the album.

The only negative aspect to The Long Faces’ EP is its short length. The album exceeds expectations thanks to the impressive chemistry between the band members. Moreover, the album steers far away from pop conventions while also being simultaneously accessible. The end result is an incredibly jammy and easy listening experience; if only it were longer. Highly recommended.
