Cassini – Await

Cassini is an electronic rock suite from Blumenau, Brazil. Released on February 3rd, 2017, Await is a solid debut.

Passionate vocals soar over dynamic and varied electronic symphonies. The execution is beautiful, and wholly fulfilling when it works. In Your Heart is an engaging opener, with an even more impressive outro. Another song with an impressive outro is The Call, a song that is both ominous, expressive and engaging. Cassini’s blend of prog rock and liquid synthetics make Remember the most unique song on Await; a beautifully mastered rock piece. While the remaining two pieces unmentioned are both equally as well executed, their ideas are far more conventional.

Much of the album sticks to the same format, rarely trying to explore a range of tempos. It’s evident from All Night Long onwards that the artist is incapable of creating a song that isn’t trying to be on the radio. Suffice to say, Await sounds more like a collection of hit-singles, opposed to a cultivated, fulfilling album experience. Thankfully the diverse textural work makes up for it. Each song is amazingly distinct thanks to the varied palate. If only there were more fleshed out instrumental breakdowns, or at least an attempted effort to make the album more coherent via instrumental bridges. Moreover, the album is underwhelmingly short.

Despite its short length, it’s still very impressive. The production and execution are both incredibly admirable, both regarding the album and the artist’s presentation in his artwork. Here’s hoping Cassini remerges in the scene and expands upon his already impressive discography.
