Смерть – Chernobyl

Смерть is an ambient producer from Yuc, Mexico. His works are comprised entirely of Klaus Schulze-esque pad-based ambience.

Much tracks on Chernobyl are indistinguishable from one another; moreover, they are indistinguishable from the overwhelming number of ambient artists in the underground scene. Irrespective of the compositional layout of keys, it’s often difficult to differentiate an ambient piece from the rest of the genre when the devastating majority of pads have been explored to death. The album attempts to differentiate itself via pitch modulations, apparent directly on the opening track, though its attempts are futile in the bigger picture.

Though Chernobyl does succeed in one aspect; its vivid depiction of the overwhelming dread that occurred in Chernobyl, circa 1986. While much of the album tends to fall in the background, its clear much attention was brough to the flawless transitions and subtle nuances. Unfortunately, the result is largely forgettable due to its lack of innovative ideas.
